ZOO KEEPERS BEWARE OF THE KILLER Tree….or maybe not…The Yaupon Holly or as its affectionately know by all plant science geeks ilex vomitora is aptly named for its use during ceremonies Native Americans used the leaves and stems to brew a tea, commonly thought to be called asi or black drink for male-only purification and unity rituals included vomiting, and Europeans incorrectly believed that it was the yaupon that caused it (hence the Latin name). BUT its not completely true…Little did i know this untruth while trimming the trees in the african exhibit when some of the berries got into my mouth and i was told that they would make me sick i immediately thought of family guy:
but after wiki told me otherwise i went back to see mt co workers giggling
very funny guys…
moral of the story… learn everything you can about all you can. cuz people will just tell you whatever!
